The Curious and Esoteric in Our Everyday Lives with Artist Mario Lautier Vella

Artist Mario Lautier Vella submitted a print of his piece ‘(I’m A ) Real Boy Now’

“Making art allows me to explore a long-held fascination with the presence of the curious and esoteric in our everyday lives – what occurs when the otherworldly or uncanny is encountered or evoked, and how these episodes are experienced, recorded and recalled.

Taking cues from personal experience and family history, dreams and stories of the spiritual and supernatural, my work explores ideas around presence and absence, invasion and evasion, protection, privacy, intimacy and the space between our public and private lives. The use of concealment, disguises, alter-egos, personas and multiples add a further layer of play, interpretation and intention to the work, allowing for new narratives and readings to emerge.

A cross-disciplinary artist, my practice incorporates drawing, painting, photography, video, sound, sculpture, installation, writing and performance. Regular teaching and talks also allow me to share my ideas and interests further.” (http://www.mariolautiervella.com/statement.html)
