“Erin Veness lives in a fantasy world. Remember this. Erin is fascinated by nature and people, and how we perceive and interact with both.
“The unreal is more powerful than the real. Because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. Because its only intangible ideas, concepts, beliefs, fantasies that last. Stone crumbles. Wood rots. People, well, they die. But things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on. If you can change the way people think. The way they see themselves. The way they see the world. You can change the way people live their lives. That’s the only lasting thing you can create.”
― Chuck Palahniuk, Choke
Erin reads far too much fiction, and becomes obsessed with other worlds, and other ways of seeing things, which she attempts to convey through artworks, focusing on the fallibility of reality, how we can bend and push boundaries and create our own reality.
“And so. If they are all lies, why not make an effort? If they are all lies, why not step outside the world of make-believe and say something else.”- Feric Feng
Erin also collects quotes that she feels relates to her work, doubting her own ability to write about it adequately, becoming consumed by similes and metaphors for the moments around us, such as when you kiss someone for the first time (and it’s hopeless), or when you wake up, the sun shines and you feel such hope in this moment (and it slips through the fingers).
“There are so many fragile things, after all. People break so easily, and so do dreams and hearts.”

Artist Mario Lautier Vella submitted a print of his piece ‘(I’m A ) Real Boy Now’
“Making art allows me to explore a long-held fascination with the presence of the curious and esoteric in our everyday lives – what occurs when the otherworldly or uncanny is encountered or evoked, and how these episodes are experienced, recorded and recalled.
Taking cues from personal experience and family history, dreams and stories of the spiritual and supernatural, my work explores ideas around presence and absence, invasion and evasion, protection, privacy, intimacy and the space between our public and private lives. The use of concealment, disguises, alter-egos, personas and multiples add a further layer of play, interpretation and intention to the work, allowing for new narratives and readings to emerge.
A cross-disciplinary artist, my practice incorporates drawing, painting, photography, video, sound, sculpture, installation, writing and performance. Regular teaching and talks also allow me to share my ideas and interests further.” (http://www.mariolautiervella.com/statement.html)
