“My personal work is all about pattern whether this is in textiles or painted onto ceramics. I love the action of turning something that was blank into a decorated object, each one unique, each design built up over several firings or several sewing and embroidery techniques.”

The Devil’s Food Cake with Poet Charlotte Varela

We received a beautiful poetry submission from poet and writer Charlotte Varela.  Charlotte describes herself as

“An old fashioned girl in a modern world, I like baking, cooking, knitting and all things vintage. I also spend my time devouring books, filling up notepads with stories, thoughts and poetry”

Unexpectedly Coming into the World with Artist Marlene Tissot

“Marlene TISSOT came into the world unexpectedly. Searched a long time before she found out that there was no user manual. Now knows that it’s normal if she doesn’t understand anything at all about life.
Tells stories since she was ten and and a half, and takes pictures since she has earned enough to buy a camera. Believes in nothing, particularly not in herself, but knows how to put one foot in front of the other and how to brush her teeth properly. Will write, one of these days, The lotto player’s odyssey amid currency crisis (in three thousand lines) but prefers for now focus on subjects a little less daring.”

Poetry with AM Spence

Beautiful poetry submission from writer AM Spence

AM Spence was born
in Manchester
and read literature
as an undergraduate
at The University
of Manchester UK.
In 2009 she completed
her MA in creative writing
in poetry at the same university.

In Winter

White flake-sky above
dark bare branches
of tall trees in my street
catch thick snow-flakes
as they fall.

My view of my street’s
blue-look looks cosy
from my window
with parked-cars covered
in thick-cut snow.

Thick flakes fall out
the flake-sky in the snow-road,
along the terrace
front gardens of homes
of people asleep or away.

The pure night-air glows
blue as thick-flakes fall
on tall tree branches like
a row of white flake-lights
lit blue in winter.

Snow Prints

Strange prints in the snow
lead to the pond to
where four fish swam.

Strange triangular shapes
deep-set in pure snow
on the wooden-bench.

I followed the prints along
the wooden-bench
covered in pure snow.

Across the snow
on the lawn toward the rockery,
I eyed each deep-set print

that puzzled me like
an unsolved mystery as I
thought about each print.

Had the four fish gone
with the strange prints
in the pure snow (no).

I saw where the prints
strangely ended between
the rockery and the pond,

and there were no fins
or fishtail prints
with the strange prints.
